LOUISVILLE PUBLIC MEDIA Triple A WFPK presented the LOUISVILLE MUSIC AWARDS for the first time this year. The event was held on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 10th at the BOMHARD THEATER IN THE KENTUCKY CENTER.
This year’s event was co-produced by musician and sister station Classical WUOL Music Education Manager JECOREY “1200” ARTHUR and WFPK PD STACY OWEN. Sister station News/Talk WFPL host JEAN WEST was the emcee.
OWEN said, “We turned the traditional model of a music awards show on its head this year, highlighting collaboration and community over competition. Instead, we honored people and organizations making an impact on our music scene. The advocates, collaborators, youth organizations and educators who make the scene strong.”
Four awards were chosen by committee. The emerging artist was determined by public vote.
* Advocate Award - The UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE UNDERGROUND MUSIC ARCHIVE
* Collaboration Award -- KENTUCKY REFUGEE MINISTRIES Live (KRM Live).
* Youth Award -- GIRLS ROCK LOUISVILLE
* Music Educator Legacy Awards -- JERRY GREEN, MELODY WELSH-BUCHHOLZ and ED “NARDIE” WHITE
* Emerging Award -- BBLASIAN
There were musical performances following each award that featured many favorite LOUISVILLE musicians from every genre who may have competed in the past, but instead, collaborated in performance together.
