A group headed by actor WENDELL PIERCE is offering to buy News-Talk WBOK-A/NEW ORLEANS from BAKEWELL MEDIA, reports TRIBUNE ABC affiliate WGNO-TV/NEW ORLEANS.
PIERCE's partners in the bid are THE SPEARS GROUP Pres./CEO CLEVELAND SPEARS III, HENRY CONSULTING Managing Partner TROY HENRY, and THOMAS MEDIA's JEFF THOMAS, and financing has been arranged including a loan from LIBERTY BANK. BAKEWELL MEDIA indicated last month that a sale of the station to local investors was imminent.
PIERCE, known for his work on "THE WIRE" and "JACK RYAN," among others, said, "Through all the substantial change NEW ORLEANS has faced in recent history, WBOK has served as a steadfast and indispensable platform for our community. The people trust them, they depend on them, and they believe in them. WBOK RADIO is the glue that brings and holds our city together.”
