Former CUMULUS Sports KBGG-A (1700 THE CHAMP), BIRACH Sports KXLQ-A (1490 THE JOCK), iHEARTMEDIA Sports KXNO-A, and MEDIACOM/DES MOINES host MARTY TIRRELL faces federal charges over alleged scamming of at least eight victims for $1.5 million, reports the DES MOINES REGISTER.
TIRRELL faces one count of mail fraud, two counts of wire fraud, one count of bank fraud, and one count of device access fraud for an alleged sports ticket reselling scheme, promising investors he could buy tickets at a discount and resell them for a profit but after initially paying his investors back, he allegedly began to use their money for personal items or to pay back other investors, sending bad checks and false wire transfer information to investors who complained. Also included in the indictment are charges of check-kiting and false debit card fraud claims.
TIRRELL, whose "MARTY AND MILLER" show with KEN MILLER (who is not involved in the case) ended in 2017 and who briefly hosted a podcast in early 2018. was taken into custody WEDNESDAY (2/13). The charges are similar to the case that convicted former WFAN-A-F/NEW YORK host CRAIG CARTON, who was found guilty in a ticket-reselling scheme that authorities said was fraudulent.
