Legendary BAY AREA sportscaster BILL KING died TUESDAY morning (10/18) of a pulmonary embolism after hip surgery in SAN LEANDRO, CA. He was 78.
KING, the radio voice of the OAKLAND A'S since 1981, also served as the radio announcer for the NBA WARRIORS from their move from PHILADELPHIA to SAN FRANCISCO in 1963 through 1983 and the RAIDERS in both OAKLAND and LOS ANGELES from 1966 through 1992. He was also heard on KSFO-A's GIANTS baseball broadcasts when the team moved form NEW YORK in 1958, and broadcast UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA football and basketball as well.
