While WASHINGTON awaits word on whether the rumored sale of BONNEVILLE Classical WGMS to RED ZEBRA BROADCASTING goes through, crosstown noncommercial WETA-F is considering a flip to Classical should WGMS go with RED ZEBRA's Sports format.
The WASHINGTON POST reports that WETA's board voted THURSDAY to allow its management to flip the station back from Talk to Classical if the WGMS move happens, and VP/GM DAN DEVANY tells the POST that WETA "could move very quickly" in that event. RED ZEBRA's owner DAN SNYDER has been negotiating a deal to buy WGMS (the POST says a preliminary agreement is in place) and would ostensibly move the TRIPLE X ESPN RADIO format from its present signals of two rimshot Class A FMs and an AM to the much bigger 104.1 frequency now occupied by WGMS.
