Michigan Radio's 'Believed' Wins Scripps-Howard Award In Radio/Podcast Category

MICHIGAN RADIO has been named the winner of the 2018 SCRIPPS HOWARD Award in the Radio/Podcast category, the JACK R. HOWARD Award for Radio/Podcast In-Depth Coverage, for its podcast series on the Olympic and MICHIGAN STATE LARRY NASSAR gymnastics sexual abuse scandal, "BELIEVED."
The judges' statement on the award said, "The lifelong costs and consequences of childhood sexual abuse were made vividly, urgently clear in the superb MICHIGAN RADIO series 'BELIEVED.' Using interrogation tapes, archival audio and in-depth interviews with the victims and their families, the MICHIGAN RADIO reporters skillfully led listeners through a staggering loss of innocence."
Finalists in the category were CHICAGO PUBLIC MEDIA News-Talk WBEZ/CHICAGO and the CHICAGO TRIBUNE for the podcast "16 SHOTS" and WNYC STUDIOS for the "AFTEREFFECT" podcast.
The awards will be presented on APRIL 18th in CINCINNATI, with the event streamed live on YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK and airing APRIL 21st on SCRIPPS' NEWSY cable news channel and on SCRIPPS TV stations during the SUMMER.
