TOM LANGMYER’s new GREAT LAKES MEDIA CORP. has named the first members of Board of Advisors and senior leadership team, with some well-known radio figures joining his new firm as it prepares to acquire media properties.
JOHN GEHRON, the veteran programmer and Chairman of ACCURADIO, will serve as a Board Advisor. GEHRON programmed WCAU-F/PHILADELPHIA, WCBS-F/NEW YORK, and, most notably, WLS-A/CHICAGO, and held executive positions at AMERICAN RADIO SERVICES, INFINITY BROADCASTING, CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO and HARPO RADIO/XM SATELLITE RADIO.
Consultant and former iHEARTMEDIA/CLEAR CHANNEL News-Talk chief GABE HOBBS will be SVP, Broadcast for the company. HOBBS programmed WFLZ (THE POWER PIG) and WFLA-A/RAMPA and served as SOUTHEAST Regional Dir. of Programming for JACOR .
ON BRAND MEDIA CEO CHRIS PETERSEN will be SVP/Business & Corporate Development; PETERSEN, a former President/CEO of BRANDSTAND GROUP and PRIME TIME BROADBAND, has also served as GM at LAKES COUNTRY COMMUNICATIONS and worked in radio as a news anchor at several HOUSTON stations.
And ON BRAND MEDIA Vice Chairman BILL ZACCHEO is serving as SVP/Digital. ZACCHEO was with early Internet video streamer COMEDYNET.COM and was an executive on the team launching E! ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION and other cable networks.
“In building our company, we’ve been fortunate to partner with some of the most successful, respected and admired leaders in media,” said LANGMYER, Founder/CEO and former SCRIPPS VP/News-Talk-Sports Programming and VP/GM of WTMJ-A-WKTI/MILWAUKEE, WGN-A/CHICAGO, and KMOX-A/ST. LOUIS. “JOHN GEHRON, CHRIS PETERSEN, BILL ZACCHEO and GABE HOBBS represent the first announced in a stellar group of people who will build tomorrow’s LOCAL media platform model.”
“The current media model we’ve seen has been ‘top-down’ and focused on national distribution of national and white-labelled content. The GREAT LAKES difference is a media model built from the ‘bottom-up’ and focused on local people creating local content and driving local revenue, while benefiting from the efficiencies technology provides us all,” added LANGMYER. “Radio and Digital complement each other, as it’s not an either/or proposition. There’s great open space in creating more personal local experiences by leveraging these platforms and expanding the emotional connection between local consumers and brands.”
