ENTERCOM News KYW-A/PHILADELPHIA Dir./Digital News MELONY ROY has exited the station in a layoff, reports the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER.
ROY, who headed the KYW digital team, had been with the station since OCTOBER 2006, starting as a desk assistant, co-hosted the "BED, BATH AND BEYONCÉ" podcast in 2017-18, and had served as the first Exec. Producer for the station's online and HD HEARPHILLY.COM. She also is Past President of the PHILADELPHIA chapter of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK JOURNALISTS.
The layoff comes as SAG-AFTRA has called for federal mediation in the dispute over a new contract to replace the previous deal that expired in OCTOBER; one issue was the union's allegation that ENTERCOM plans to make KYW's digital staff non-union, while other issues involve a significant reduction in severance payments. ENTERCOM told the INQUIRER that ROY's departure was unrelated to the contract negotiations.
