As widely rumored in recent weeks, GUARDIAN MEDIA GROUP has purchased the UK's SAGA RADIO from senior insurance and travel provider SAGA for an undisclosed price. GMG will likely rebrand the stations when it takes over.
SAGA (unrelated to the U.S. station owner SAGA COMMUNICATIONS) operates stations targeted at audiences 50+ in the EAST MIDLANDS, WEST MIDLANDS and GLASGOW and holds a permit to launch a new station in the NORTHEAST next year plus digital licenses. GMG recently bought the CENTURY FM stations in MANCHESTER and GATESHEAD from GCAP MEDIA and owns the REAL RADIO stations in SCOTLAND, WALES, and YORKSHIRE, SCOTLAND's Q96, and the SMOOTH FM stations in LONDON and the NORTHWEST.
