Condolences to family and friends of longtime BALTIMORE radio traffic reporter "DETOUR DAVE" SANDLER, who died THURSDAY (3/14) after a long illness at 58.
SANDLER was heard for 31 years, until his 2017 departure, on HEARST News-Talk WBAL-A and Active Rock WIYY (98 ROCK)/BALTIMORE. He also wrote a book about his heart attack while playing softball in 2009, "Taking a Detour: Life Lessons from a Near-Death Experience and the Long Journey Back." His BALTIMORE radio career started at WCBM-A in the news department, followed by joining METRO TRAFFIC as an airborne reporter; SANDLER was also a popular mobile DJ in the area.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION or the KIDS HELPING HOPKINS program at JOHNS HOPKINS CHILDREN CENTER.
