An article lauding BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE as an "unlikely First Amendment Hero" in THE NEW YORKER? Indeed, the TAMPA-based syndicated host, whose show returned to the national spotlight last week with the controversy over past appearances by FOX NEWS CHANNEL's TUCKER CARLSON, is featured in a piece by ZACH HELFAND in the MARCH 25th issue, recounting BUBBA's many brushes with controversy over the years and including a talk with BUBBA about free speech.
In the article, BUBBA notes that he's become "fairly up to speed" with legal decisions on the First Amendment, points to the difference between the HULK HOGAN-GAWKER case and free speech issues ("You cannot confuse the First Amendment with a privacy issue"), and the CARLSON affair (an unfair attack on himself and his friend, he says). “I’m not nearly as brilliant as GEORGE CARLIN,” BUBBA told HELFAND. “But I try to be kind of a dumber, white-trash version of GEORGE CARLIN.”
