Reading Eagle Newspaper, Owner Of WEEU/Reading, PA, Files For Bankruptcy

The READING EAGLE COMPANY, owner of News-Talk WEEU-A/READING, PA as well as the READING EAGLE newspaper and related operations, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Operation of the radio station and newspaper will continue while the company seeks a buyer.  The company issued a message to EAGLE readers saying, “For more than a century you have taken us into your homes and supported us as we've told your stories and reported on the events and policies that shape your lives.  We hope you will stay with us as we move through this period of change.”

The company has retained DIRKS, VAN ESSEN, MURRAY & APRIL to market the operation to potential buyers; the EAGLE has been publishing continuously since 1868 and acquired the weekly SOUTH SCHUYLKILL NEWS in 2015.
