Former NATHAN B. STUBBLEFIELD FOUNDATION noncommercial Variety WMNF/TAMPA News and Public Affairs Dir. and "RADIOACTIVITY" host ROB LOREI has been reinstated to his position after a review of his termination by the station's Board of Directors. LOREI was fired earlier this year (NET NEWS 2/18) without public disclosure of the cause, and he filed a grievance with the board that resulted in his reinstatement.
In a statement, the board said, "We believe both ROB and (GM) CRAIG (KOPP) can and should play a critical role in the present and future of WMNF. This event has reinforced the value of WMNF and the impact we have in the local community, particularly in news and public affairs. It heightens our commitment to support the TAMPA BAY community and to give voice to the underserved.
"Unfortunately, it also demonstrated a need to review a number of things about our operations. The Board will be evaluating and amending our bylaws and policies. Additionally, we will be taking a critical look at our organizational design and other operational elements of the station to ensure we are built to thrive both now and for the next forty years."
LOREI, also the host and Managing Editor of FLORIDA THIS WEEK on crosstown PBS affiliate WEDU-TV, was one of the original founding staffers of WMNF when it signed on in 1979.
