Radio listeners in NEW YORK said LOU MONTE's song "Dominick The Donkey" was played 46 times by the city's radio stations between THANKSGIVING and MONDAY. MEDIA MONITORS said the song was played on WLTW, WKTU, WHTZ, WNEW and WCBS, the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS reported TUESDAY.
By contrast, the formerly popular Christmas novelty song "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" by ELMO and PATSY was not played at all. "I think 'Dominick' is more of a NEW YORK song," said WLTW OM/PD VP/AC JIM RYAN. "I still try to play it judiciously," he said.
However, on the national stage, the numbers were quite different, said MEDIA MONITORS spokesman TOM ZARECKI. "Dominick" was played 95 times by stations in major radio markets, while "Grandma" gathered 237 total spins.
