NATHAN B. STUBBLEFIELD FOUNDATION noncommercial Variety WMNF/TAMPA GM CRAIG KOPP resigned from the station in the latest fallout from the firing and subsequent reinstatement of News and Public Affairs Director ROB LOREI.
In his resignation letter, which was effective immediately, KOPP, GM since FEBRUARY 2015, pointed to community reaction to his firing of LOREI, which he said drew anti-Semitic comments, as the impetus for his resignation, saying that while he loves WMNF and tried to set it up for the future, "the reinstatement of ROB LOREI assures that it will remain firmly rooted in the past.”
KOPP fired LOREI in FEBRUARY, and CREATIVE LOAFING TAMPA BAY reports that the firing was for insubordination and “bullying behavior,” but LOREI was reinstated by the Board of Directors, and KOPP's letter alleges that the board did not endorse LOREI's view of the firing but instead reinstated him to attempt to quell public protest.
