The tentative agenda for the FCC's MAY Open Commission Meeting includes the proposal to streamline the rules about FM translator interference complaints. The matter will be taken up at the MAY 9th meeting along with plans on regulatory fees for Fiscal Year 2019, a toll free number auction for the 833 area code, sharing the 1675–1680 MHz band for federal and non-federal use, video relay service changes, and satellite authorization for THEIA.
The Commission first moved a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking at last MAY's Open Meeting that proposed FM translators be able to move within the non-reserved band as a minor change to alleviate interference, a minimum of six (three for LPFMs) and maximum of 65 complaints (depending on market size, one complaint for every 100,000 people in the station’s service area) should be required to support an interference claim, and additional changes to the rules should be made to clarify and standardize complaint requirements, with an outer limit placed on interference complaint locations.
