Marketplace Receives Kellogg Foundation Grant To Fund Two Years Of Workplace Coverage

A $500,000, two-year grant from the W.K. KELLOGG FOUNDATION to AMERICAN PUBLIC MEDIA’s MARKETPLACE will fund reporting and analysis covering the American workplace. Covered by the grant is production of over 50 broadcast elements each year. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PUBLIC RADIO News-Talk KPCC/PASADENA-LOS ANGELES reporter MEGHAN MCCARTY CARINO has joined MARKETPLACE as the lead reporter on the project.
“The American workplace is transforming at lightning speed,” said MARKETPLACE Exec. Editor of News EVELYN LARRUBIA. “Over the past two decades, a combination of innovation, automation, and off-shoring have cut swaths through middle-class jobs and redefined the very concept of what it means to work today. The demography of our country and workforce is changing in historic ways: the current working population is aging and rapidly reaching retirement age, and more than half of the working age population will be people of color by 2050. All of these shifts will have a meaningful effect on our work culture, labor market, and economic futures. With this grant, we can help Americans better understand these seismic economic shifts and explore the changes yet to come.”
