JIM DUNBAR, who hosted at KGO-A/SAN FRANCISCO for 37 years, has passed away, according to the SAN FRANCiSCO CHRONICLE. He was 89 and died MONDAY (4/22) at his home near SAN FRANCISCO.
DUNBAR was a DJ at Top 40 stations like WXYZ-A/DETROIT, WDSU-A/NEW ORLEANS, and WLS-A/CHICAGO before joining KGO in 1963, where he remained until his 2000 retirement, first as PD and afternoon host, then moving to mornings in 1974. He also hosted "AM SAN FRANCISCO" on then-sister ABC O&O KGO-TV, most notably getting a call on that show from a man who may have been the Zodiac Killer on one 1969 episode, and survived an assassination attempt in 1973, when a gunman shot at him, hitting bullet-proof glass, then killed a salesperson and himself.
DUNBAR was inducted into the RADIO HALL OF FAME in 1999.
