A local school board in CHICAGO is revisiting its vote to name a high school athletic fiels after CBS Sports WSCR-A (670 THE SCORE)/CHICAGO morning host MIKE NORTH after NORTH called CUBS pitcher JAE KUK RYU a "Chinaman" on the air. The CHICAGO SUN-TIMES reports that NORTH has apologized for using the term and has offered to do a show on sports diversity live from the field at SENN HIGH SCHOOL (which NORTH attended), but the LOCAL SCHOOL COUNCIL plans to take up the issue at its JANUARY 10 meeting.
"At the time," NORTH said, "I had been saying it for 15 years, to be quite honest with you. Nobody told me it was offensive, so it just went under the radar. And then someone told me it was just as bad as using the N-word. I just want to explain to them I would never do anything like that."
