Former HEFTEL Rock WLUP (THE LOOP)/CHICAGO morning man STEVE DAHL will be honored by the CHICAGO WHITE SOX by throwing out the first pitch of the JUNE 13th game against the NEW YORK YANKEES -- as the team "celebrates" the 40th anniversary of the "Disco Demolition" stunt that led to the cancellation of the second game of the doubleheader between the WHITE SOX and the DETROIT TIGERS.
On JULY 12th, 1979, DAHL -- then 24 and just a few months in as the new morning man at WLUP -- emceed the anti-disco promotion, where a large box of disco records were placed on the field and subsequently blown up. Unfortunately, soon after the explosion, thousands of rowdy fans stormed the field. The pandemonium caused so much damage to the field that the game was canceled and it was forfeited to THE TIGERS.
Commemorating the event -- and coinciding with “Free T-Shirt THURSDAY” -- a Disco Demolition-themed T-shirt will be distributed to the first 10,000 fans who enter the ballpark.
“I think it’s really great that the WHITE SOX are embracing the 40th anniversary," DAHL, who currently hosts a podcast, told ROBERT FEDER. "I’m looking forward to having my family out there with me, and I’m hoping to throw another strike. Or at least have someone to throw it to.”
