With the new movie largely based around the life and career of ELTON JOHN, "Rocketman" now in theatres, THE GLOBE & MAIL recalls CKLW-A/WINDSOR-DETROIT MD ROSALIE TREMBLAY, who helped break the singer/songwriter in AMERICA 45 years ago.
On Nov. 14, 1974, JOHN sat in as “EJ the DJ” during the afternoon shift, playing hit records by CHER and RUFUS before finishing his "set" by introducing "Bennie & The Jets" by saying, "This record is a Deeeeeee-troit record! You made it! Thank you!”
As MD for CKLW-A, TROMBLEY was thought of as one of the most powerful woman in the music business, breaking records BY ALICE COOPER, TED NUGENT, THE GUESS WHO, EARTH, WIND & FIRE and BOB SEGER. In fact, in 1973 SEGER wrote the song, "Rosalie" -- named after TROMBLEY, calling her “everybody’s favorite little record girl.”
