After extricating himself from his contract with ENTERCOM, RADIO.COM, and Sports WEEI-F/BOSTON (NET NEWS 5/22), KIRK MINIHANE made it official this morning in a PERISCOPE video (from ENTERCOM's BOSTON studios, no less), announcing that he has joined BARSTOOL SPORTS for a daily podcast "live to tape, a couple of hours per day." His first day at BARSTOOL will be JUNE 15th.
MINIHANE said that DAVID PORTNOY and ERIKA NARDINI reached out to him when he negotiated his release from his ENTERCOM contact. "Obviously, it's going to end poorly at BARSTOOL, too," MINIHANE joked, giving himself six months before things go bad; "I'm going to get to do what I want," MINIHANE said before taping himself taking a farewell walk through the ENTERCOM facility ("this is not as emotional as I thought it was gonna be," he said, finding his old office locked).
MINIHANE co-hosted mornings on WEEI with GERRY CALLAHAN before he came off the air in the wake of seeking treatment for suicidal thoughts and was replaced by MIKE MUTNANSKY while ENTERCOM announced that MINIHANE would be hosting a new national show for RADIO.COM early in 2019, which never materialized. He continued to host his "ENOUGH ABOUT ME" podcast until this month, when he negotiated a deal to be released from his contract with no non-compete clause attached.
