With MEDIANEWS GROUP, the buyer of the READING EAGLE, declining to take News-Talk WEEU-A/READING with the newspaper in the deal (but keeping the station's assets and real estate), the READING EAGLE COMPANY has opened bidding for the station's license, the paper reports.
The bidding is being accepted through JUNE 10th by DIRKS, VAN ESSEN, MURRAY AND APRIL, which is handling the EAGLE's bankruptcy case. MEDIANEWS previously said in court filings that it would shut WEEU down upon closing its $5 million purshase of the newspaper, but would keep the equipment, real estate, and transmitter and would be amenable to leasing them to a buyer of the license for up to five years or until the assets are sold, whichever comes first.
DIRKS, VAN ESSEN's SARA APRIL told the EAGLE, "There has been interest" from potential buyers of WEEU; she can be reached by interested parties at (505) 820-2700 or sara@dirksvanessen.com.
