Noted R&B music producer POLOW DA DON is launching a new station in the NASHVILLE market for which he plans to bring back a once common brand name, “Young Country.” The station, launching on THURSDAY, JUNE 6th, will broadcast from a station DA DON purchased earlier this year, AM outlet WYCZ (1030, formerly WQSE), and simulcast on translator W292FB, which is changing frequency to 96.7. The programming will be a mix of Country, Urban and Hip-Hop artists, offering a terrestrial radio home for country-rap artists like BUBBA SPARXXX, LIL NAS X and new BBR MUSIC GROUP signing BLANCO BROWN, among others.
The station will air commercial free for there first two months. DA DON plans to curate the music himself, and he told Billboard he wants to create “genre-bending mashups remixing Rap or Pop songs over a traditional Country beat, as well as taking Country songs and remixing them with an Electronic or Hip-Hop beat.” Assisting in the programming will be MIA WELSH-KHABEER, COO/GM of DA DON’s ZONE 4 label, as well as music manager/executive JEFF HADDAD. Air talent will be hired at a later date.
DA DON (real name JAMAL JONES) has worked with such stars as NICKI MINAJ, USHER, FERGIE and RIHANNA, as well as with KANE BROWN on his 2018 “Experiment” project, although he and BROWN ended up trading lawsuits later.
