FRED JACOBS' latest blog post at the JACOBS MEDIA website sounds a warning that digital audio purveyors are now aggressively targeting the morning drive that has up to now been the domain of broadcast radio.
JACOBS notes the success of daily morning news update podcasts like THE NEW YORK TIMES' "THE DAILY" and NPR's "UP FIRST" and similar products from ABC, VOX, AZIOS, SLATE, and THE WASHINGTON POST, with "THE DAILY" crossing back over to public radio; music radio morning shows, JACOBS warns, are being subjected to new competition from SPOTIFY's "YOUR DAILY DRIVE" playlist. With the new competition, JACOBS writes, radio should "not (take) your morning drive audience for granted" and stations need to "re-examine how your hosts are delivering everything from service elements to benchmarks" to fend off the "digital predators."
