The case covered in the second season of AMERICAN PUBLIC MEDIA/APM REPORTS' "IN THE DARK" has been ruled upon by the U.S. SUPREME COURT, which reversed CURTIS FLOWERS' conviction and death sentence in a case that saw FLOWERS tried six times for the same crime. The court voted 7-2 to reverse FLOWERS' conviction for the 1996 shootings of four people in a furniture store in WINONA, MS, finding that prosecutor DOUG EVANS exhibited racial bias in jury selection.
FLOWERS' appeal included reporting from the podcast, and if EVANS decides to try FLOWERS for a seventh time, the evidence uncovered by APM REPORTS will be available for FLOWERS' defense. FLOWERS has been in prison for 22 years; "IN THE DARK" will issue two new episodes updating the case and has previously posted two additional episodes in MARCH covering the SUPREME COURT arguments.
