COX MEDIA GROUP OHIO, including Country WHKO (K99.1 FM), News-Talk WHIO-A-F, and Classic Hits WZLR-W266BG (95.3 AND 101.1 THE EAGLE)/DAYTON, CBS affiliate WHIO-TV, and the DAYTON DAILY NEWS, has helped raise almost $300,000 in the past month for tornado relief. Efforts included a partnership with the DAYTON FOODBANK that raised over $170,000, plus a $120,00 donation from the JAMES M. COX FOUNDATION to be split equally between the FOODBANK, the AMERICAN RED CROSS' DAYTON chapter, and the DAYTON FOUNDATION Disaster Relief Fund.
“In times of community need, I am so proud to work in the local media and for COX MEDIA GROUP, where our mission to inform and save lives goes hand-in-hand with our corporate values of helping the community be a better place for the future,” said CMG OHIO Market VP ROB ROHR. “We can have such an immediate and significant impact in helping our neighbors. It’s truly inspiring.”
“The FOODBANK team is incredibly grateful for the support of COX MEDIA GROUP and its listeners, readers, and viewers,” said FOODBANK CEO MICHELLE RILEY. “Thanks to your generosity, the FOODBANK has held eight disaster relief Mobile Farmers’ Markets in areas most at need for emergency food assistance, as well as operated our drive-through food pantry every day throughout the month of JUNE. With the support of COX MEDIA GROUP, we are dedicated to continuing to meet the increased food needs of our community for months to come. Thank you for making this important work possible.”
“We want to give a special thank you to all the people who watch Channel 7, read our newspapers, listen to our radio stations and visit our websites -- those who joined us to raise these funds. This is a huge start, but there is more work to be done,” added ROHR. “Our brands will continue our diligence as the community recovers. It will take months, perhaps years, but we will be there all the way on this journey to recovery.”
