MARTZ COMMUNICATIONS, aka RADIO POWER, has launched 107.3 THE BEAT on 660 WAMO/107.3 W297BU, offering “PITTSBURGH’s Old School and Today’s R&B.” The signal previously simulcasted WAMO’s hip-hop format, which is still heard on 100.1.
The station is currently playing 10,000 songs commercial-free, after which The STEVE HARVEY Morning Show will debut, and THE QUIET STORM show will segue from WAMO to 107.3 THE BEAT at an as yet unspecified date. WAMO and 107.3 THE BEAT GM JAMAL WOODSON said on a video post on FACEBOOK that THE BEAT will be “bringing back two former WAMO DJs from back in the day that everybody loves. We’ll be doing a whole lot of new things.”
“I’ve been working hard with programming for the last two years to make this happen,” WAMO and 107.3 THE BEAT GM JAMAL WOODSON told the NEW PITTSBURGH COURIER. “We get tons of feedback ... there was just a void, nothing for the older demographic.”
