A 20-month-long internal investigation by the COLUMBUS BOARD OF EDUCATION has concluded that Variety WCBE/COLUMBUS, OH GM DAN MUSHALKO amassed over $869,000 in unpaid programming fees with NPR and falsified invoices to hide the debt, reports the COLUMBUS DISPATCH.
The report from Auditor CAROLYN SMITH said that MUSHALKO altered the invoices submitted to the school system treasurer, including amounts owed, numbers, and dates. MUSHALKO resigned last TUESDAY in advance of the report's release.
When the discrepancies first came to light in JANUARY, MUSHALKO was suspended pending an investigation; a spokesman for the school district told the DISPATCH that criminal charges will not be sought and the matter is closed.
