MIKE SOMMERS (ANDRZEJEWSKI), best known for programming legendary Hot AC WSTW/WILMINGTON, DE passed away on WEDNESDAY night (7/3) at UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA HOSPITAL in PHILADELPHIA after a brief illness.
SOMMERS, 58, originally from CHEBOYGAN, MI, was a graduate of CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY and worked in DETROIT in his home state, before moving on and hitting his stride at Top 40 WDJX/LOUISVILLE. He programmed WSTW from 1992 to 1997, before transferring to sister AC station WAFL/DOVER. He returned to WILMINGTON and programmed heritage AC WJBR/WILMINGTON and went on to helm Adult Hits WBEN/PHILADELPHIA and Classic Rock WOCT/BALTIMORE, all while commuting from his family home in HOCKESSIN, DE.
In 2009, he and his family started FREAKIN' FRESH SALSA, which is now stocked on store shelves throughout the MID-ATLANTIC. In recent years he continued to consult several radio stations, primarily in MICHIGAN and the PACIFIC NORTHWEST.
MIKE is survived by his wife CEIL, daughter CORRIN, and sons SHAWN and JOSHUA, along with grandchildren SAVANNAH and BENTLEY BOESEN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an athletic scholarship fund in MIKE's name at WILMINGTON CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 825 LOVEVILLE ROAD, HOCKESSIN, DE 19707.
