A new study by VOXNEST examines whether podcast listening behaviors differ based on the podcast's category and concludes that different topic categories indeed produce different listener behaviors, specifically the time listeners choose to consume the podcasts.
The study looked at five top categories in the U.S. and in EUROPE, finding that in the U.S., Religion podcast listeners prefer early mornings and late evenings, Culture podcasts are consumed in a wide range of times, Sports podcasts are popular in mornings and after work, History listening peaks at 10 pm and leans generally towards late night, and News and Information podcasts spike in evenings.
For EUROPE, Business podcasts get play at 7a, 4-6p, and lunchtime, Culture podcasts are a daytime passion, Psychology podcasts spike in mornings and at 6p, History plays best in afternoons and evenings, and Education podcasts do best in afternoons and mornings.
Overall, the top performing hours in the U.S. are 7-8a and 9-10p, (7-8a and 5-6p in EUROPE).
