NPR has upped NPR DIGITAL MEDIA Creative Dir. LIZ DANZICO to VP/Design. DANZICO, who joined NPR in 2013, will help the network and its member stations develop plans for audience collaboration, design methodology, coordinate design experiences across platforms, and develop fundraising opportunities for NPR digital activities. In addition, NPR has promoted Director/Technology Strategy & NPR Labs CHRIS NELSON to VP/Technology Operations. NELSON has been with NPR since 2000.
Chief Digital Officer THOMAS HJELM said, "This move recognizes LIZ's many contributions to the Digital Media team and NPR over the past five years, her uncommon skills as a mentor, communicator and connector, and the fact that, increasingly, the principles and practices of human-centered design, of which LIZ is a champion, are essential to the way we shape our strategies for growth and innovation."
DANZICO said, "There seems no more revolutionary time to be in design for public media -- a time when access to local and national stories is multiplying across products and platforms, increasing the demand for rich and connected user experiences. The design of an experience has the potential to transform everyday life in expected and unexpected ways. I have absolutely loved the opportunity to lead audience-centered design practices over the past five years, and could not be more honored to work with colleagues at NPR and across the system to unite product and platform experiences for current and future audiences."
Pres. of Operations LOREN MAYOR said of NELSON's promotion, "Now starting his 20th year at NPR, CHRIS brings innovative technology leadership to his role, driving collaboration between editorial, production, and technical staff, and promoting a culture of operational excellence and public service. He has focused considerable energy on building talented teams to design, deploy, engineer, and support the complex technology solutions and infrastructure at the operational heart of NPR's editorial vision and signature sound."
NELSON added, "I've seen this organization and our systems grow over the years, and that would not have happened without the dedicated efforts of this team. Our technologists are innovators and leaders in their fields; they deserve recognition for the work they do to support nearly every facet of NPR's operations, and I'm proud to serve them all in this role."
