Sports USA Wins Judgement Against Sun Broadcast Group

Verdict

SPORTS USA has won a $2 million judgement against SUN BROADCAST GROUP in a lawsuit that alleged SBG breached its deal to represent SPORTS USA for ad sales. SPORTS USA alleged that SBG was under contract to sell ads for college football in 2016 and 2017 and tried to terminate the agreement midstream after failing to meet its financial obligations to SPORTS USA. A jury in LOS ANGELES SUPERIOR COURT voted in favor of SPORTS USA on FRIDAY (7/12).

In response, SBG CEO JASON BAILEY issued a statement saying that SBG was "shocked and saddened by the verdict" and pointed towards the inability to introduce "key evidence" on hearsay grounds; the company will appeal the verdict, he said. BAILEY also noted that the defendant in this case was the "old SUN, which has not traded since late 2018. It does not involve the current SBG owned and operated by GEN MEDIA PARTNERS.”
