At least three people were killed and at 15 more were injured when a gunman opened fire at the GILROY GARLIC FESTIVAL IN GILROY, CA on SUNDAY (7/28), according to local and national media reports. EMPIRE BROADCASTING Country KRTY/SAN JOSE was among the three-day event’s sponsors, and several national Country acts had performed at the festival earlier on SUNDAY. Those acts — STONEY CREEK RECORDS’ KING CALAWAY, CAPITOL NASHVILLE’s CAYLEE HAMMACK, and SHOW DOG’s WATERLOO REVIVAL — all took to social media to let fans know they were not injured. KRTY GM NATE DEATON wrote on FACEBOOK, “We are our KRTY Crew are safe. Most of us left at 3p after our shows. Prayers to those hurt in the GARLIC FESTIVAL shooting.”
STONEY CREEK West Coast regional MATT VIEIRA also took to FACEBOOK to post, “Myself and KING CALAWAY had left the GILROY GARLIC FESTIVAL shortly before the shooting and we are all OK, as are the KRTY people.” In their own FACEBOOK post, the members of KING CALAWAY wrote, “Thanks you to everyone who has reached out. We’re all OK. Sending our love to everyone at the GILROY GARLIC FESTIVAL and the emergency services at the scene.”
HAMMACK posted on INSTAGRAM, “We are okay! We left right before all this must’ve happened … @waterloorevival @kingcalaway and us all played today, but we believe all are safe and away from the festival now. This makes me sick. There was so many smiling faces today, just enjoying the beautiful day together. My heart and prayers go out the the 11 injured.”
WATERLOO REVIVAL posted on INSTAGRAM, “Thank you to everyone who has called and [texted]. We are all okay and safe from the GARLIC FESTIVAL shootings. Please pray for the victims and their families.”
