Max Falkenstien, Longtime Kansas University Sports Radio Voice, Dies At 95

MAX FALKENSTIEN, the radio voice of UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS football and men’s basketball for 60 years, died MONDAY (7/29) at 95, the university has announced.
FALKENSTIEN, who began his career at WREN-A/LAWRENCE, KS and later worked at WIBW-A-TV/TOPEKA, called JAYHAWKS games from 1946 through 2006, calling play-by-play for 39 years and then switching to the analyst's role next to BOB DAVIS in 1984. He retired after the last game of the 2005-06 men’s basketball season.
FALKENSTIEN was honored with the retirement of the number 60 jersey in his honor at ALLEN FIELDHOUSE, the only jersey number retired by K.U, to honor a non-player. He won the NAISMITH BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME's CURT GOWDY Award in 2004 and the COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME's CHRIS SCHENKEL Award in 1996.
