QUENTIN TARANTINO’s new film, ONCE UPON A TIME ... IN HOLLYWOOD, is generating a lot of buzz, not only for the patented TARANTINO ultra-violence but for its star-studded cast and its faithful recreation of 1969 LOS ANGELES. Part of that '69 recreation is the music broadcast on legendary Top 40 KHJ-A (BOSS RADIO)/LOS ANGELES.
LOS ANGELES MAGAZINE reports that TARANTINO and his longtime music supervisor, MARY RAMOS, listened through 14 hours of original KHJ airchecks from 1969, including the original BOSS RADIO jingles and commercials, as well as airchecks of iconic DJs REAL DON STEELE and CHARLIE TUNA.
Not only are the airchecks peppered throughout the film, the soundtrack is replete with original KHJ soundbites.
