You can turn out the lights, the party that would be the WOODSTOCK 50 festival is over before its intended AUG. 16th-18th dates, NPR reports. "We are saddened that a series of unforeseen setbacks has made it impossible to put on the festival we imagined with the great lineup we had booked and the social engagement we were anticipating," WOODSTOCK 50 producer MICHEAL LANG said in a statement.
The final cancellation ends a six-month effort to put it on. Organizers originally predicted tickets would go on sale in JANUARY, but they did not. In APRIL came reports that festival producers were still struggling with sanitation and audience capacity issues, while investors went public with financial battles with the promoters. More recently, there was the location change from WATKINS GLEN, NY to the MERRIWEATHER POST PAVILION in COLUMBIA, MD.
Lang, who already already paid all who had been booked for WOODSTOCK 50, asked the artists -- such as Jay-Z, CARLOS SANTANA, JOHN FOGERTY and CHANCE THE RAPPER -- to use that money to fund a voter registration organization called HEADCOUNT, "or causes of their choice in the spirit of peace."
