As reported here last night, a nine-member jury in LOS ANGELES has awarded Christian rapper FLAME and his co-plaintiffs a combined $2.78 million in damages after ruling that KATY PERRY's 2013 hit, "Dark Horse," infringed on the copyright of the FLAME song, "Joyful Noise" (NET NEWS 7/29).
The jury also determined that PERRY, producers "DR. LUKE" GOTTWALD, MAX MARTIN, and HENRY "CIRKUT" WALTER will be liable for a little over $500,000 of the award with the remainder coming from CAPITOL RECORDS. However, PERRY's lawyers have asked U.S. District Judge CHRISTINA SNYDER to rule that "no reasonable jury could find copyright infringement based on the evidence presented at trial."
If SNYDER agrees to that motion, the damages would be canceled.
