WALJ/Tuscaloosa, AL Launches 105.1 The Block

TOWNSQUARE MEDIA/TUSCALOOSA, AL finalized the purchase of Urban WALJ (105.1 JAMZ)/NORTHPORT-TUSCALOOSA and relaunched it as 105.1 THE BLOCK.

The property was previously owned by APEX MEDIA CORP. under an LMA agreement with SUMMITMEDIA/NORTHPORT-TUSCALOOSA (NET NEWS 6/5).

Asst. OM/PD MARY K SCHMITT said, “I am very excited about launching WALJ under the TOWNSQUARE MEDIA TUSCALOOSA umbrella, where we have a local-first focus. The WALJ signal will once again have a local connection to the city of TUSCALOOSA and I am thrilled to launch 105.1 THE BLOCK to reflect the lifestyle and tastes of the TUSCALOOSA millennial.”

The station will carry REACH MEDIA’s RICKEY SMILEY MORNING SHOW and ALLY “THE PUB” WASHINGTON has been tapped for midday. She most recently she hosted midday for RADIO ONE WGPR/DETROIT. Additional on air staffing will be announced in the near future.

WASHINGTON told ALL ACCESS, “My air name at 105.1 THE BLOCK will be ALLY LYNN. I want to thank TOWNSQUARE, MARY K, and DAVID DUBOSE for believing in my vision and making things happen for me. I graduated from UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA in TUSCALOOSA and still have family living in the area. Life has come full circle. I look forward to being a part of the TUSCALOOSA culture again and getting things on and poppin.”
