Big changes are hitting ENTERCOM Sports WQAM-A and WAXY-A (790 THE TICKET)/MIAMI starting MONDAY.
First reported by the MIAMI HERALD's BARRY JACKSON, the stations are shuffling their lineups to make WQAM more of a national sports station with the new slogan 560 THE JOE and turn THE TICKET into a more locally-oriented station. Included are the move of DAN LE BATARD's MIAMI BEACH-based ESPN RADIO show "THE DAN LE BATARD SHOW WITH STUGOTZ" from its longtime home at THE TICKET to WQAM, ending local broadcast of "THE LOCAL HOUR," the MIAMI-only show mostly hosted by LE BATARD's production crew "The Shipping Container" (MIKE RUIZ RYAN, ROY BELLAMY, CHRIS COTE, BILLY GIL) in the process, and the elimination of WQAM's midday "DONNO AND FRIEDO" and THE TICKET's afternoon show with CURTIS STEVENSON (ALEX DONNO and STEVENSON remaining with the stations in other capacities, JOSH FRIEDMAN leaving).
Hey, Joe In addition, THE TICKET will move BRENDAN TOBIN, BRIAN "THE BEAST" LONDON, and LEROY HOARD into mornings 6-10a from middays 1-3p; JONATHAN ZASLOW and AMBER WILSON move from mornings to 10a-2p, with BRETT ROMBERG exiting the show; MARC HOCHMAN and CHANNING CROWDER's WQAM afternoon show will now be heard on both stations, airing on THE TICKET 2-6p; ZACK DUARTE will host 6-10p; and CBS SPORTS RADIO's SCOTT FERRALL and AMY LAWRENCE will air overnight.
At WQAM, JOE ROSE remains in mornings, followed by LE BATARD, ESPN RADIO's STEPHEN A. SMITH 1-3, HOCHMAN and CROWDER 3-6p, a "best of" from both stations 6-7p, and ESPN RADIO the rest of the weekdays.SVP/Market Manager KERIANN WORLEY said in a press release, “Our stations are the home of sports in MIAMI. These strategic enhancements to our programming allow us to better serve fans and increase opportunities for our partners. We are committed to maximizing fan engagement and look forward to bringing them more coverage of their favorite local sports teams.”
And late FRIDAY, LE BATARD producer MIKE RYAN tweeted that "The local hour will still exist. Don't fret." On the show's official TWITTER account, he added, "Right now the plan is for us to do the final local hour (as presently constituted) on 790 THE TICKET on MONDAY morning. ENTERCOM is giving us the opportunity to say goodbye to that frequency and we’re going to take them up on that offer. - An obviously disappointed Mike Ryan."
