BBC is dropping the broadcast of its live radio stations on the TUNEIN platform starting AUGUST 30th, in its effort to tighten its control over its content, WHATHIFI.COM reports. Apparently, TUNEIN does not provide the BBC with data it needs.
"When we make our programs available via third parties, we ask that those platforms either allow you to sign into your BBC account – or provide us with meaningful data directly," the BBC blog explained. "Unfortunately, TUNEIN doesn’t do either of these, so we couldn’t reach a data sharing agreement with them."
TUNEIN offered its own take in its press release, saying that the BBC's decision was "driven primarily by the BBC’s efforts to standardize how listeners in the U.K. access BBC stations, which unfortunately, is something we are unable to accommodate at this time."
However, the BBC did note that streams are "only coming off TUNEIN on platforms where an alternative way of listening is easily available." Older audio devices offering a TUNEIN-powered radio service, therefore, won't be affected -- nor will the availability of BBC podcasts.
