The FCC has entered consent decrees with several parties, including MERUELO MEDIA Classic Hip-Hop KDAY-KDEY/LOS ANGELES, over misuse of Emergency Alert System tones.
MERUELO MEDIA HOLDINGS will pay a $67,000 fine and institute a compliance plan for using a simulated EAS tone in a promotion for its morning show in FALL 2017. Also fined were ABC for a "JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE" bit simulating a Wireless Emergency Alert tone in a sketch, earning the network a $395,000 fine; AMC for two EAS tones in an episode of "THE WALKING DEAD," resulting in a $104,000 fine; and DISCOVERY, which is paying a $68,000 fine for airing a real wireless alert caught on tape while filming game wardens for "LONE STAR LAW."
