The CBC has announced that five of its original podcasts will be adapted for television under a series of new development deals.
The shows to be adapted include true crime podcast SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING (to be scripted TV series produced with FIRST GENERATION FILMS), true crime UNCOVER: THE VILLAGE (NOBLE ENTERTAINMENT), self-improvement parody PERSONAL BEST (3ARTS ENTERTAINMENT), TAI ASKS WHY, in which a 12-year-old looks for answers to big questions (IRWIN ENTERTAINMENT), and ALONE: A LOVE STORY (SIENNA FILMS).
“As CANADA’s national public broadcaster and number-one podcaster, we are uniquely positioned to lead in this new area of opportunity for rich and diverse storytelling,” said CBC English Services EVP BARBARA WILLIAMS. “This growing cultural phenomenon will make it possible for us to work with Canadian and international partners to bring passionate podcast listeners to our television and streaming platforms, and showcase Canadian stories to wider audiences at home and around the world.”
