WEBS RADIO, INC. Country WEBS-A-W278CD (KICKIN' 103.5)/CALHOUN, GA took to FACEBOOK on FRIDAY, AUGUST 16th to let its listeners know that the station would be shutting down on SUNDAY (8/18) after more than five decades. A report in COOSA VALLEY NEWS lists bank foreclosure as the reason the station signed off at 6p (ET) YESTERDAY.
The post reads, “The management and ownership of WEBS RADIO, INC. regretfully announce that, after more than 50 years on the air in CALHOUN, broadcast services from both AM-1030 and 103.5 FM, will be suspended at 6p SUNDAY evening.” Quoting GM/owner KEN PAYNE, who bought the station in 1980, the post continues, “Due to circumstances beyond our control, services to our community will come to an end on SUNDAY. I want to say a very special thank you to the wonderful staff that has worked with us for 39 years. Thanks also going out to the sponsors and loyal listeners. It has been a pleasure, honor and privilege to have served the public for these many years. We hope we have been able to come into your homes, automobiles, and businesses by radio with programming that was entertaining and informative. Thank you again for being a part of WEBS 1030AM and KICKIN' 103.5-FM.”
The post also notes: “Our FACEBOOK page and that of [News Dir.] DWAYNE JACKSON will be here, and keep bringing you local news, as well as to inform you from where DWAYNE and other staff members will be next on the air in the area.”
