The IBBA (INTERNATIONAL BLACK BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION) will host several events SATURDAY (8/24) at the SHERATON NORFOLK WATERSIDE HOTEL in NORFOLK, VA.
The gathering is focusing on the 400th anniversary of the first Africans arriving in NORTH AMERICA.
Exec. Dir. ROB NEAL said, “2019 is a pivotal year for the FORT MONROE NATIONAL MONUMENT, marking the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first Africans to English NORTH AMERICA. The entire year is dedicated to those “20 and odd” who were brought here on an English privateer ship named the WHITE LION."
GRAY COMMUNICATIONS Pres. TONY GRAY will moderate the broadcast panel. The former and first Black Mayor of TUCKEGEE, AL --JOHNNY FORD will keynote the IBBA dinner. One of the days scheduled activities includes a visit to the site where the first slaves arrived in NORTH AMERICA.
