Taylor Swift Decides To Get Political

TAYLOR SWIFT, who recently announced plans to re-record her old music so the new owner of her catalog won't profit as much from it (NET NEWS, 8/22), is now plunging headfirst into the polarizing world of politics. On the same day her new album, "Lover," was released (8/23), SWIFT told THE GUARDIAN that Pres. TRUMP and his administration are “gaslighting the American public into being like, ‘If you hate the president, you hate AMERICA.’”

“We’re a democracy -- at least, we’re supposed to be -- where you’re allowed to disagree, dissent, debate,” she said. “I really think that he thinks this is an autocracy.”

The outspokenness is a change for SWIFT, who previously stayed out of the political arena during the 2016 election, refusing to endorse candidates. She now regrets staying on the sidelines, especially after her home state of TENNESSEE passed new laws that severely restrict abortions. "Obviously, I’m pro-choice,” she said before reacting to the new laws by declaring, “I just can’t believe this is happening.” She pledged to “do everything I can for 2020."
