HERB HOBLER, the founder of NASSAU BROADCASTING CO., died AUGUST 10th at 96 in SKILLMAN, NJ, according to an obituary in the TRENTON TIMES.
HOBLER worked at MUTUAL BROADCASTING COMPANY, NBC and CBS television, TELEPROMPTER, and VIDEOTAPE PRODUCTIONS before founding NASSAU and signing on WHWH-A/PRINCETON (the calls using his initials) in 1963. A year later, NASSAU bought WTOA/TRENTON from the TRENTON TIMES; that station became WPST (for "PASSPORT RADIO") and later developed into a prominent Top 40 outlet. HOBLER also called PRINCETON basketball as color commentator on WHWH for 18 years. NASSAU was sold in 1986.
