CUMULUS News-Talk WJBC-A/BLOOMINGTON, IL morning co-host SCOTT LAUGHLIN has announced his retirement. LAUGHLIN visited the morning show with co-host KATHERINE MURPHY and afternoon host SCOTT MILLER TODAY (8/29) to announce that he will not be returning to the station; He has been undergoing treatment for kidney cancer since MAY and told MILLER and MURPHY that he had planned to retire in JUNE 2020 but decided to move up the date.
PD FISH MARTIN has named MILLER and MURPHY as LAUGHLIN's official successors. "You're the third SCOTT in a row to host the morning show," LAUGHLIN told MILLER, "so they'll save on letterhead."
MILLER said. "I am honored to follow in the morning drive footsteps of DON MUNSON and SCOTT LAUGHLIN on ‘The Voice Of Central ILLINOIS’. I have never felt more a part of a community than I do here ... and the Central ILLINOIS pork tenderloins are the size of my head. WIN WIN!"
OM DAN WESTHOFF added, "We wish nothing but the best for SCOTT LAUGHLIN as he focuses on his health. Emotionally, it’s not easy to move forward in a situation like this, but we must. We look forward to having SCOTT MILLER in the morning and know he will do a great job."
