COMMUNITY COMMUNICATIONS noncommercial WMFV/CEDAR CREEK-OCALA-THE VILLAGES, FL has launched a new schedule with more News-Talk programming from sister WMFE/ORLANDO, NPR, and other public radio sources, replacing Classical programming and the local "GENE MARTIN SHOW."
The new programming includes "INTERSECTION" with MATTHEW PEDDIE, "THE FLORIDA ROUNDUP," and several national shows including "1A," "HERE & NOW," "FRESH AIR," "SCIENCE FRIDAY," "AS IT HAPPENS," "BBC NEWS HOUR," "WAIT WAIT... DON'T TELL ME," "LIVE FROM HERE," and "TRAVEL WITH RICK STEVES." The station also plans to hire a full-time reporter living in THE VILLAGES area.
“We’re excited to bring WMFE’s award-winning programming and NPR News to THE VILLAGES area,” said WMFE/WMFV Interim Pres./GM and Dir. of Content and Audience Development STEPHEN YASKO. “We’ll be devoting a lot of airtime to cover the important issues affecting one of the fastest-growing regions of the country.”
“We will bring INTERSECTION into the region to explore the political, social and economic conditions affecting SUMTER, LAKE and surrounding counties,” said PEDDIE. The show will air at noon (ET) THURSDAY, and will expand to MONDAY-THURSDAY by the end of the year.
“I’m saddened to see GENE MARTIN’s show retire,” added YASKO. “It’s one of the best American Songbook shows there is. But with the change, comes an opportunity to implement a news-based programming schedule that serves curious minds.”
