In a deal first reported in FEBRUARY (NET NEWS 2/14), BAKEWELL MEDIA OF LOUISIANA, LLC is selling News-Talk WBOK-A/NEW ORLEANS to EQUITY MEDIA LLC, headed by actor WENDELL PIERCE, for $550,000 ($400,000 cash at closing, $150,000 paid 15 months after closing plus 5% interest). PIERCE's partners are THE SPEARS GROUP Pres./CEO CLEVELAND SPEARS III, HENRY CONSULTING Managing Partner TROY HENRY, and THOMAS MEDIA's JEFF THOMAS.

In other filings with the FCC, EMPIRE BROADCASTING CORPORATION is selling Silent WPTR-A/SCHENECTADY, NY and the construction permit for W246DS/BALLSTON SPA, NY to AREA INDEPENDENT RADIO, INC. for $75,000 plus a time brokerage agreement before closing.

D.W.S., INC., licensee of WDWS-A, WHMS-F, and W230CW/CHAMPAIGN, IL and WKIO/ARCOLA, IL has filed for debtor-in-possession status after it and parent THE NEWS-GAZETTE, INC. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
